Ultimate Game Day Tailgate Food List

Hallelujah football season is upon us!!! That means it’s time for me to make an Ultimate Game Day Tailgate Food List! Game week is officially here and I am so ready!  It is by far my favorite “season” and I look forward to it all year long!  Getting to tailgate with friends and family, eat delicious food, and attending my favorite team playing my favorite sport is THE BEST! Just sitting here writing this makes me so excited about the next 12 weeks.  I know several of you would rather just watch football games on TV, but for me it’s all about getting in that stadium where I can even smell the sweat!

Growing up with a football loving family meant lots of Saturdays tailgating before and after the games.   So, the food situation at these games is always a big topic!  Gotta feed everyone who may even think of walking by, ya know? Heaven forbid us not be able to feed a friend…or a stranger!  Us Southern ladies know better than to not have anything to offer our guests haha!

A few years ago I decided to take on the task of organizing the food for our tailgates.  We attend every Razorback home game, which means we have 6 or 7 tailgates per season.   That doesn’t seem like too much until you start to think about eating the same BBQ sandwiches for 7 out of 12 weekends straight.  NO THANKS!  So how do I change up what we have to eat and not completely go nuts trying to find different ideas each week?   I started planning (because I do love a good plan) and initiating my time management skills into a Tailgate Season Food Plan!

A few factors play in while making the decision of what to serve.

What time is the game?

  • If the game starts at 7pm, we will start our tailgate at Noon.  This means we need enough food to last through dinner.  Also, everyone loves to come back to our tailgate after the game and snack on whatever is left!
  • If the game starts at 2:30pm, we will start our tailgate at 10am.  For these games we do easy ideas that can unload and reload quickly.  Usually we do a sort of brunch idea including a good mix of breakfast and lunch items.  Don’t forget the mimosas!
  • If the game starts at 11:00am, we will have a “barely there” tailgate haha!  Easy breakfast food and mimosa bar!

What is the weather situation?

  • Rain on game day can be such a buzz kill for your tailgate!  Pour down rain means you probably don’t want to be grilling and will most likely want something really easy in case you have to quickly load up and go.
  • Freezing cold- If it is borderline snow weather then this girl is not trying to eat watermelons and hot dogs.  I need chili before I freeze to death!
  • Melting hot- I know it’s Fall but stop it with your famous chili recipe until I stop sweating in the shade!  Everyone is melting and will want light refreshing food!

Now I can make a list of 7 (or whatever the number of home games there are that year) food ideas. I start with the main theme, then add side dishes, and then list ingredients.

***You will notice that there are repeats on dips & desserts because they are our tailgate’s favorites!***

    1. Thanks Jena! We are actually doing Sandwiches and dips for our game this weekend because it’s at 2:30pm. Yall are lucky to always have later games! We never know depending on what TV time we will get. I LOVE NIGHT GAMES!!! Less chance of me melting and more time to tailgate haha!

    1. Thanks Emily! The bar ideas are always a big hit! People seems to like a change up instead of the usual burgers & hot dog options. Plus, it opens up so many ideas on different dips and sides for people to bring. Thanks for reading 🙂
